On Wednesday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) announced that a number of initiatives have been taken for sustainable development and the reduction of carbon pollution at airports. One of these initiatives included encouraging the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The Ministry of the Environment also stated, in a press release, that measures are being taken to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the airspace.

In addition, the terminals Authority of India (AAI) has devised a strategy for reaching its goal of powering terminals entirely through renewable sources of energy.

In addition to its other initiatives, the Ministry of the Environment has reportedly urged the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) to factor in the expenses that are associated with the utilization of renewable energy sources when calculating airport fees.

According to the release, AAI has drafted a plan for its scheduled operational airports and has taken initiatives, such as the publication of energy intensity statistics, to reduce the amount of energy intensity required for both ongoing airport construction projects and future airport construction projects.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), “India’s aviation sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years, leading to an increase in carbon emissions from airports.” The ministry went on to say that it has taken a number of steps to promote sustainable development in the aviation sector and to reduce carbon emissions at airports.
